I believe that Brenda Wong Aoki did a great job in painting the picture of community and of character in her play. Because it is only her narrating and speaking the lines of the other characters, we get a sense of familiarity to her voice. She changes her tone and style of speaking when she plays the part of another character which allows us to differ her from the others. Even when she stops narrating and says her lines we can hear a slight change of tone. There is also music to help guide the plot. It provides us with transitions from scenes and moments. People of various backgrounds had their own "voice" when Brenda spoke and that created a sense of unity in these people. People from the Westside spoke one way and people outside of the gangs spoke without accents and slang.
